Dog Trainer/Behavior Consultant

Jersey Shore Dogs is seeking a dog trainer/behavior consultant to help with our growing caseload of in-home dog training clients in the central New Jersey area (e.g. Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean counties). Applicant must be from this area, have a valid NJ driver’s license, and their own car for transportation to/from appointments. We work weekdays, weeknights, and weekends to accommodate our clients’ busy schedules.

Knowledge in force-free/science-based training required. Experience preferred. We DO NOT use force or “balanced” methods to train dogs. Please do not apply if you are interested in, or use methods involving pain, force, intimidation, domination, fear, corrections, and equipment including pinch, choke, or shock collars – this position is NOT for you.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Reside in Middlesex, Monmouth, or Ocean County – please do not apply if you live outside of this area – the required travel would be too extensive.
  • Certification such as CTC, CPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Background in animal behavior learning theory and behavior modification is preferred.
  • Previous experience training with positive reinforcement, force free, and/or science-based techniques in an individual or group class setting is preferred.
  • Hands on experience training dogs is preferred – this includes working with puppies, teaching basic behaviors (sit, lie down, come when called, leash walking, etc.), and working with basic behavior issues (jumping, nipping, counter surfing, house training, chewing, etc.). Experience with advanced behavior cases including fear, aggression, reactivity, and separation anxiety is a plus.
  • Have a valid NJ driver’s license, current auto insurance, reliable transportation, and an excellent driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and basic computer skills.
  • Physical requirements: must be able to walk dogs that pull hard on a leash, and be able to walk, bend, kneel, lift, etc.

The ideal candidate will be hardworking, attentive, responsible, and have strong interpersonal skills – someone who is personable, outgoing, and has the ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with a variety of people. The candidate must also possess the ability to make sound judgements while working independently in order to keep our clients (both human and dog) as safe as possible. The ability to multi-task, have a strong attention to detail, and organizational skills are a must. Sales background a plus.

Dog Walker/Pet Sitter

Jersey Shore Dogs is seeking a mature, responsible individual to perform dog walking and/or pet sitting services in the central New Jersey area (e.g. Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean counties). Applicant must be from this area, have a valid NJ driver’s license and their own car for transportation to/from client homes. We work weekdays, weeknights, and weekends to accommodate our clients’ busy schedules. Pet sitters must also be available on holidays if needed.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Walking dogs
  • Provide food and water for dogs and/or other pets
  • “Cleaning up” (e.g. pet accidents, scooping litter boxes, cleaning bird cages, etc.)
  • Additional play/exercise for pets
  • Basic household chores (bring in mail, take out trash, alternate lights and blinds, etc.)
  • Provide a “daily diary” to the pet owner with details of each visit
  • Staying overnight in clients’ homes for extended visits
  • Administer medication if needed
  • Transportation to vet in an emergency

Minimum Requirements:

  • Reside in Middlesex, Monmouth, or Ocean County. Please do not apply if you live outside of this area as the required travel would be too extensive.

  • Must be willing to pass a criminal background check.
  • Have a cell phone with internet and texting service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and basic computer skills.
  • Physical requirements: must be able to walk dogs that pull hard on a leash, and be able to walk, bend, kneel, lift, etc.
  • Prior pet care experience is preferred (e.g. dog walking, pet sitting, shelter volunteer, doggy daycare, vet tech, etc., but not required.

The ideal candidate will be hardworking, attentive, responsible, and have a flexible schedule – whether you are self-employed, a stay-at-home mom, or a retiree, if you love animals and are very responsible, this is a great opportunity! The candidate must also possess the ability to make sound judgements while working independently in order to keep our pet clients as safe as possible while their human owners are away. The ability to multi-task, follow detailed instructions is a must.

Office/Admin Assistant

Jersey Shore Dogs is seeking a part-time office/administrative assistant to help with our growing caseload of in-home dog training clients in the central New Jersey area (e.g. Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean counties).

The ideal candidate will be driven, hardworking, and responsible, be able to work independently without distraction, and have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills – someone who is personable, outgoing, and has the ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with a variety of people. The ability to multi-task, have a strong attention to detail, and organizational skills are a must.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Responding to prospective client training inquiries by phone and email.
  • Entering leads into CRM database.
  • Scheduling training appointments based on trainer availability.
  • Ensuring excellent customer service
  • Other general office duties as needed (compile training folders and vet kits, print training handouts, order supplies, etc.).
