New Jersey (NJ) Obedience Dog Training & Problem Behavior Consulting Services

Bring out the best in you and your dog with positive reinforcement-based training.

Our private obedience training and behavior training sessions are conducted in your home and/or neighborhood. This allows us to more accurately observe how your dog behaves on a daily basis, since the home is (in most cases) the source of behavior problems. For example, if your dog jumps on your counters, taking him or her to a group class isn’t ideal because many times your dog will be unlikely to exhibit the unwanted behavior in a different environment. By allowing us to work with you and your dog in your home, we can tackle the issue(s) hands-on as the behavior presents itself.

DOES YOUR DOG EXHIBIT ANY OF THE BELOW BEHAVIORS? WE CAN HELP WITH THESE & MORE!

  • Excessive barking
  • Jumping up
  • Unwanted chewing
  • Nipping/Biting
  • Leash pulling on walks
  • Not coming when called
  • Food/Object guarding
  • Lack of impulse control
  • Aggression towards people/dogs
  • Door dashing
  • Counter surfing
  • Crate training issues
  • House/Potty training issues
  • Basic obedience issues (sit, down, stay, come, etc.)
  • Advanced problem solving issues (separation anxiety, fear, compulsion disorders, etc.)

IN-HOME TRAINING SESSIONS (For Dogs of All Ages)

“Positive reinforcement has been shown to be the most effective way to train a dog; rewarding good behavior will increase the likelihood of that behavior being repeated.” –Victoria Stilwell

In-home obedience training and behavior consulting sessions are done in the comfort and convenience of your own home. It is our goal to a) effectively train your dog, and b) teach you how to analyze your dog’s behavior, and use that information to teach new behaviors or modify unwanted ones. These sessions are perfect for owners who are truly interested in getting past the “magic and myths” behind dog training and want to learn how dog behavior REALLY works.

During each visit, we will we discuss the personal goals and problem behaviors/concerns you have with your dog, daily routines, diet, and more. During your first training session, we will provide an initial assessment based on an evaluation of your dog’s behavior and then immediately begin hands-on training. The first session is always a “working” session – we do not do consults. We will accomplish as much as possible during the first training session, which may include advice and treatment regarding additional behavior problems and/or issues.

Our obedience and behavior training sessions cover:
• Understanding how dogs learn (the basics of learning theory)
• Basic behaviors (sit, down)
• Intermediate behaviors (stay with and without distractions, both inside and outside the home, wait, leave it, drop it, come when called/recall)
• Handling and confidence building (great for meeting strangers, vet/groomer visits)
• Enrichment activities to help enhance your dog’s mental state, reduce and avoid stress and build confidence
• Target training (touch and “go to your mat” exercises)
Loose leash walking/heeling
• House training

Additionally, we offer basic obedience group training classes, which take place one hour a week, over the course of 6 weeks. These classes are ideal for dogs (5 months of age and older) that need to learn or brush up on basic skills. Click here for the current class schedule and enrollment requirements, or contact us to see which of our training services are best suited for your dog and situation.

SEVERE BEHAVIOR ISSUES (Fear, Aggression, Anxiety, Etc.)

Our specialty lies in advanced problem solving cases including dogs with fear, aggression (towards humans or other dogs), food or object guarding, severe anxiety (separation or otherwise), and compulsion disorders.

DAY TRAINING (For Dogs of All Ages)

Chase the Border Collie

Looking for quick results, but lack the time to be heavily involved in your dog’s training? Our Day Training package was made to satisfy the needs of those with busy schedules. The trainer will come to your home 3 times per week, over the course of 3 weeks, and work directly with your dog while you’re at work, at your child’s baseball game, or simply running errands. The third session of each week will be a wrap up/transition session with you and the trainer. You’ll find out what was learned that week, how and when to ask for and reinforce the new behaviors that were taught, how to maintain good behaviors in the future, and what to do if you experience an unwanted behavior that pops back up. Day training takes the pressure off, affording you the option of being present for as many/few of the sessions as you’d like. We’ll build the foundations for your dog and show you how to keep them solid and continue moving forward. This convenient package offers the quickest and most effective way to train your dog if you do not have the time to do so yourself.

**All training packages include unlimited phone and email support for the life of the dog(s) on the contract to ask any follow up questions, get clarification on the training program and recommendations, or should new issues arise.**
